The Royal Wedding: Best-Dressed Guests

By Francesca Claybrook

Victoria Beckham – this isn’t a surprise as Posh can often be found on best-dressed lists, but I thought she did an admirable job of remaining demure and appropriately pregnant while still looking stylish.  Her dress, which I originally thought was black, was actually navy and was (naturally) a Victoria Beckham design from her A/W 2011 collection.  Although La Beckham’s hat sat a liiiiitle far forward on her forehead for my taste, overall I think she looked beautiful.  And by the way, let me take a minute to register my shock that a pregnant woman is walking around in those shoes.

Samantha Cameron – this might shock some people since SamCam, as the British tabloids call her, arrived at Westminster Abbey sans headgear.  But I thought Samantha, wife of British Prime Minister David, looked fantastic in her Burberry dress.  The color is beautiful and the orange accents she chose create the perfect amount of contrast.

Princess Letizia of Spain – I like the texture and color of her ensemble, and the fact that her hat isn’t too oversized.  I kept feeling sorry for the wedding guests stuck behind the wearers of exceptionally large hats, because they must have blocked what little views the people behind them would have had.

Charlene Wittstock – well, Charlene (the fiancée of Prince Albert of Monaco) does have a large hat but it doesn’t seem too heavy, which wins it points in my book.  I like the color of her coat – the pale gray is beautiful – and it fits her wonderfully, showing off her figure without being too revealing, which is most definitely a don’t at a royal wedding.

Princess Maxima of the Netherlands – pale tones really seemed to be popular among the royal wedding guests.  I love the lace on this dress, and the way the belt emphasizes her waist without standing out too much.  And again, I do appreciate the smaller hat (and I’m sure those seated behind her appreciated it as well!)
