Kate Middleton, Queen of Style

By Francesca Claybrook

Three weeks to go until the royal wedding and no one has been able to get Kate Middleton off the brain.  The biggest object of interest is no doubt the dress, which will be the most talked about and scrutinized wedding dress at least until Kate and William’s first child gets married, but Miss Middleton is getting a lot of praise (along with some criticism) for her everyday sense of style.  While some fashion insiders lament her lack of fashion-forward choices, I have to disagree.  I mean, this is the woman who will one day be Queen of England – do you really expect her to be Lady Gaga?  I love Kate’s classic chic look, and so I looked around to see where even non-princesses can score Middleton-inspired pieces.

Your first must-have is a classic trench, like Kate’s wearing above.  Hers is Burberry, but if you’re not lucky enough to have Kate’s Burberry budget, the Kristen Blake trench pictured above is a perfect classic option.

Word is that La Middleton gets some of her omnipresent knee-high black boots from Aquatalia; I like the “unison” style, pictured above, for a modern take on classic English chic.

Kate is a big fan of Issa London, by Brazilian designer Daniella Helayel, and even wore a now-famous blue Issa dress when announcing her engagement to Prince William.  For true Kate style, the purple dress pictured above could be proper under a blazer or a cardigan for a serious event, or fun and flirty on its own.

The final piece to complete your transformation is headgear.  Kate has popularized what I just learned is called a fascinator – fascinating, no?  (Forgive me.)  I think ASOS’s fascinator, pictured above, is definitely up Miss Middleton’s alley, but if you don’t agree with me then take a look at some of your other options.
