Milan Fashion Week Runway Recap: Jil Sander

By Francesca Claybrook

Designer Raf Simons’ color palate was very basic, like many others we’ve seen:  black interspersed with some bright fluorescent colors.  Some of the sweater details seemed quite ‘80s-inspired – black backgrounds with bright prints.  I liked the balance of color to black.  Some pieces were cut to be very oversized, but it all worked nicely because each piece was proportional to what it was paired with.  That way, nothing looked too out of place.

I liked this all-black look a lot.  Simple and chic – perfect.

The cut of this dress is so great, and I really love cobalt blue.  It’s a bold color choice that’s not as extreme as a florescent pink or neon yellow for us color-phobes.

At the opposite end of the spectrum, this yellow sweater is cut beautifully, and it pairs well with the simple black bottoms.  For those looking to incorporate some of these bright colors into your wardrobe, take this look as an inspiration.

Simons did several looks in this material, but this one was my favorite.  The dimensions are a bit oversized, but both pieces are matched in their proportions so it works.
